FRANKEN WILL BE SENATOR
DEMS NOW VIRTUALLY FILIBUSTER-PROOF
The Minnesota Supreme Court sided with Democrat Al Franken in a unanimous ruling this week, finally striking down Norm Coleman’s legal arguments and sealing Franken as the next Senator for Minnesota. After the ruling handed Franken the senate seat, Coleman officially conceded, giving Democrats in the Senate a 58 seat total.
With 58 Democrats and 2 Independents who caucus with the Democrats, the Republicans in the Senate face a filibuster-proof majority. While it’s a slim supermajority, and Independents like Joe Lieberman have differed with liberal Democrats at times, it will now be extremely easy for President Obama to push his agenda through the Senate - - which spends wildly on every program except funding our troops and military R&D, while raising taxes to more burdensome levels.
This news highlights the need for pro-troop supporters to band together and work even harder towards 2010. Only by winning seats back for pro-troop candidates, can we make certain that our troops will have the support they need in Congress.
